In Season and Out

As I thought about the new season which began almost a month ago, today a favourite scripture verse and fall plant came to mind. First the plant.

Autumn Joy (Sedum) aka Autumn Stonecrop is a fabulous and popular perennial. In spring and early summer this hardy, and robust plant displays its light green leaves and then puts on massive deep rose flowerheads in late summer and then gradually age to a beautiful bronze in the fall.If you leave them standing, they will provide both winter interest in your garden and a food source for your birds. All-in-all a 4-season beauty and a true ‘Autumn Joy’ don’t you agree?

The scripture verse which came to mind was that of 2 Timothy 4:2, “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage–with great patience and careful instruction.”

In this letter to Timothy, “Be instant – Insist on, urge these things in season, out of season – That is, continually, at all times and places. It might be translated, with and without opportunity – Not only when a fair occasion is given: even when there is none, one must be made.”, says Charles Wesley.

So like the steadfast display that our Autumn Joy has all four seasons may we all, as Paul instructed Timothy, be prepared to display the marvelous love and joy of our Lord, wherever the Holy Spirit leads!

Be safe and well my friends!
