There are only three little letters in the word SIN and smack dab in the centre is the letter “I”! I is in the middle of sin. Now, that sentence is grammatically correct when ‘I’ refers to a thing, the letter, for instance. However, if ‘I’ refers to a person it should read, “I am in the middle of sin.”
Humankind can find it is easy to walk or even run right into the middle of sin(s) for various reasons. Loneliness, lack, longing, lusting, etc can cause you and me to just that and then clearly sense that, ‘I am walking in sin.’
I sincerely believe that IF or WHEN we find ourselves right in the middle of sin (wrongdoing, error, evil, or transgression) we will feel pain and unease — real apprehension. I know I certainly have! It is as uncomfortable as a pair of shoes which you find you are wearing that fits too tight and makes it extremely unpleasant to walk or run in.
We know that what we are doing, saying, or even thinking is wrong, but in our own sufficiency we cannot overcome nor remove the ‘ill-fitting footwear’. It is like running a race in those tight, painful shoes and the finish line is nowhere in sight! But, as believers, we are told in Romans 6:8, 10-11, we can have victory and win the race against sin and all the devices of the devil; In Christ’s sufficiency alone, we are able to see and reach the finish line!
“Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him. The death He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life He lives, He lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”Romans 6:8, 10-11
Do not allow the old deceiver to make you think you have no choice. When we choose to walk in close dependency with Jesus, moment by moment, we are fully equipped, by the Holy Spirit whose power resides within us! Let us ‘Change our shoes’ and just as surely God will change/transform our walking/running/way-of-thinking into a joy-filled journey!
Together, let us trust God that Jesus has washed our feet from the terribly painful and ill-fitting ‘sin’ shoes we were wearing and then continue to run this race of life fully alive, with our feet shod with new shoes, ‘Son’ shoes!
Today, dear friend, do you need to change your shoes? If so, won’t you please join me in the following prayer?
Holy Spirit, I need You to take this truth and permeate my entire body, mind, soul, and spirit. Remind me that I was crucified and buried with Christ and therefore, I do profess that I am dead to ‘every’ sin. Because You live in my spirit, I declare that I am alive to God in Christ Jesus, His Son.
In my flesh, I am powerless, but by abiding in You, I can do all things according to Your will. I trust in You now to give me the willingness and the strength to follow You fully and joyfully. In the name of Christ Jesus, Amen.
And now, before I sign of this beautiful Monday afternoon, I invite you to listen, for just a tad over 1 minute, to a new song which our Awesome Father gave me today. It is entitled, ‘New Shoes’. I trust you will enjoy and sing along with me!
I love my ‘new Shoes’! 💓
Blessings in Christ Jesus,
